Roof Cleaning & Moss Removal in Lanarkshire
Moss scraped, tiles soft washed, biocide applied, gutters cleared. One day, no deposit.
What we do
Moss on a Lanarkshire roof isn’t just ugly. It holds water against the tiles, freezes and cracks them in winter, slides into the gutters and blocks them, and hides broken tiles and slipped ridge until they leak. Most of the roofs we clean around Motherwell and Hamilton have five to fifteen years of growth on them, and the difference afterwards is dramatic.
We don’t blast roofs with a pressure washer. High pressure strips the surface off concrete tiles and shortens their life. Instead we scrape the heavy moss by hand, soft wash the tiles at low pressure, and apply a biocide treatment that kills what’s left and keeps regrowth away for years. Gutters are cleared as part of the job because that’s where the moss ends up. If we find a cracked tile or loose ridge while we’re up there, we’ll tell you and can usually fix it on the day – see roof repairs.
Process
- Scrape – heavy moss removed by hand from tiles, valleys and ridge
- Soft wash – low-pressure clean of the whole roof
- Biocide – applied to every tile to stop regrowth
- Clear – gutters, downpipes, paths and garden cleared before we leave
FAQ's
Is roof cleaning worth it, or should I just replace the roof?
If the tiles are sound, cleaning and treating costs a fraction of a re-roof and adds years to it. Martin will tell you honestly if it’s past that point.
Will you damage the tiles?
No – we don’t pressure wash roofs. Hand scraping and soft washing only.
What’s biocide and is it safe?
A treatment that kills moss, algae and lichen spores. It’s applied to the roof only and is safe for pets and gardens once dry.
How long until the moss comes back?
With treatment, typically 3–5 years. Untreated, 12–18 months.
Do you clean conservatory roofs?
Yes – see uPVC & conservatory cleaning.
